Description of Product

I will be presenting items that a logo designer would present to a company. I will begin by presenting a eleven-slide Prezi where I will introduce my mentor, Frank Chlarson, explain why logo/logo designers are so important, and show the knowledge I had acquired during my internship. To show my learnings, I will simulate a Branding Experience by using a gift wrapping service Wrap It Up as an example company. I will begin by presenting a sample Competitors’ Report, which shows the logos of a company’s competition. Next, I will demonstrate the process of creating and developing a logo for Wrap It Up in a vector program. Then, I will show the Wrap It Up logo applied to sample items, including a bus shelter, an employee shirt, a lanyard, a mug, and a Ford Transit, and various forms of stationery such as a letterhead, an envelope, and a business card. Lastly, I will present the Brand Book, which provides guidelines for how a company should apply their logo, burned onto a CD that also contain files of the logo in every form (white/black/CMYK/Pantone). An entire script of my presentation can be found here.

Some difficulties I encountered were designing a logo by myself and finding a to present what I learned. I had originally wanted to create a video tutorial of me recreate the Wrap It Up logo; however, as an amature in graphic design, it was difficult for me to design the logo. So I omitted the video tutorial. I will still explain how to design the logo. Since logo designing is an art, there are not many rules when it comes to designing the actually logo. There are also many approaches to take on a company and their logo. To solve this problem, I have decided to use an example company, Wrap It Up, to simulate and demonstrate the process of a logo designer.

Learning Stretch

During my internship, I learned not only how to design logos using vector programs, but how to arrange the “branding experience” for a company. By carefully observing my mentor, Frank Chlarson and taking thorough notes during the internship, I witnessed the roles of a logo designer. Whenever I was unclear on a subject or needed further explanation, I asked Mr. Chlarson questions. However, I did not need to ask so many question as Mr. Chlarson was very straightforward with his work. Although I, myself, did not do any hands-on work, Mr. Chlarson and I were in constant communication with each other, and I gave any insight and opinions I had. While Mr. Chlarson designed the logo on Adobe Illustrator and created the Brand Book, I took notes on the tools used in a vector program and their functions and carefully documented the content that went into Brand Book. Mr. Chlarson also showed me some of his past clients and the process of creating a logo a company wants. Most times, Mr. Chlarson has to design multiple rounds of logos to present to his clients. Although Mr. Chlarson knows better, a lot of the clients have their opinions and think they know better. After all, the customer is always “right.”

In order to prove the understanding gained during this experience, my product will display material and information a logo designer would present to a company such as a Competitors’ Report, a Branding Guide, and a disk containing all forms of the logo. In addition to these documents, my product will include a demonstration of how I designed a logo. Before embarking upon this internship, I thought that logo designers solely designed logos. I also thought that most of the brainstorming and designing occurred on paper. However, after seeing a logo designer work, I learned that logo designers do so much more. I feel that this internship has opened my eyes to a possible career path in the future.
